Cristiano Ronaldo inspires his team to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp
Cristiano Ronaldo has inspired his team Real Madrid to an important win in the Classico to keep their hopes of the title alive. The Portuguese forward scored the winning goal with five minutes only to play to help Real Madrid clinch a decisive win in the title race.
Barcelona, who had a ten point lead at the top of the table before the match, found their lead cut off to only 7 points. Athletico Madrid is now second 6 points behind the leaders.
The game started well for Barcelona with their possession football. Madrid was keen to let them have control of the ball and play in front of the defense and then hit them on the counter-attack. Messi and Suarez were guilty of missing some chances during the first hour of the game. It was evident that the front players for Barcelona were tired following the international break compared to Benzema who was not involved with France.
It is, however, Barcelona who opened the scoring by Gerard Pique after a corner. His powerful header did not give Real Madrid’s keeper any chance. It was a deserved lead for Barcelona who has been controlling the game from the start.
However, Madrid regrouped after conceding and gradually became more dangerous. Benzema scored acrobatically on a great ball from Toni Kroos just 6 minutes after conceding.
Bale even scored a goal after a Ronaldo service, but it was disallowed because of a foul on Jordi Alba.
Madrid continued to press and with Barcelona players looking tired, continued to create chances after chances. However, they will lose their captain Ramos because of two yellow cards. At this moment, everyone thought that Barcelona might be able to win this game, but it was Cristiano Ronaldo who scored last to give Madrid a much-needed win.
